Each inert gas system must be designed, constructed, and installed in accordance with the provisions of SOLAS II-2 with the following provisions: acceptable types of water seals include the wet and semi-wet type. Other types of seals may be accepted on a case by case basis if approval is given by the Coast Guard Marine Safety Center. The vessel is fitted with a crude oil washing system. Therefore, the inert gas system is required by regulation [46 CFR 32.53-1(a)(3)]. The installed inert gas system is an inert gas generator (IGG). The system does not have a deck water seal and instead is fitted with a double block and bleed (DBB) arrangement. 46 CFR 32.53-10 50c
