A system for the continuous monitoring of the concentration of the hydrocarbon gases shall be fitted on all tankers constructed before 1 July 2002 by the date of the next scheduled dry docking before 1 July 2002, but not later than 1 July 2004. The gas detection equipment shall be designed to sample and analyze from each sampling line of each protected space, sequentially at intervals not exceeding 30 minutes. PSCO observed the gas sampling detection system was switched off. 74 SOLAS (20) II-2/2.6.7 FSS Code 16.2.2.3.1

Resolution: PSCO instructed vessel crew on regulations and the Fixed Gas detection system was turned. PSCO observed sampling in protected spaces. Corrected on the spot.
