when testing fixed gas detection system with 50% LEL propane from the air lock, the gas detection read out panel stabilized at 30% LEL. Crew then tested locally from the gas detection cabinet with 50% LEL propane & it again stabilized at 30% LEL from the read out. PSCOs witnessed recalibration of gas detector but was unable to carry out proper testing in the presence of PSCOs due to running out of gas. Crew must show proper testing of fixed gas detection and have appropriate amount of test gas onboard. 74SOLAS(14) VII/13.1, IGS 93/13.6.10
