In tankers, electrical equipment, cables and wiring shall not be installed in hazardous locations unless it conforms with standards not interior to those acceptable to the organization. Port side pump room bilge alarm is an explosion proof fixture. The electrical cable gland was not sealed, allowing potential accumulation of flammable vapors.

Resolution: Received survey report from Marshall Islands flag surveyor who was on board at the time of inspection. The gasket was replaced and fitting made to be gas-tight again.
