The condition of the ship and its equipment shall be maintained to conform with the provisions of the present regulations to ensure that the ship in all respects will remain fit to proceed to sea without danger to the ship or persons on board. The pilot reported while heading inbound Delaware Bay, DE, the vessel had a complete loss of propulsion due to a cracked piston jacket on the main engine. Prior to movement, an analysis must be conducted and proper repairs completed. Coast Guard requires a class report to verify that the deficiency is fully rectified and that the vessel is safe to proceed.

Action required: 60 - Rectify deficiencies prior to movement
Resolved 2 July 2024
Resolution: The vessel has made proper repairs to the M/E #5 cylinder. Class boarded the vessel and has verified the repairs. Vessel can achieve maximum ahead and astern propulsion.
