Except for hatches between cargo, special category, store, an baggage spaces, and between such spaces and the weather decks, openings shall be provided with permanently attached means of closing which shall be at least as effective for resisting fires as the divisions in which they are fitted. PSCO observed that the vessels fire screen door (3.3.06) was incapable of closing all the way.

Fire doors in the MVZ bulkheads, galley boundaries and stairway enclosures, except those for emergency escape trunks, shall be capable of remote release from the continuously manned central control station., either simultaneously or in groups, and shall be capable of release also individually from a position at both sides of the door. Release switches shall have an on-off function to prevent automatic resetting of the system. POSC observed galley roller fire door (5.2.05) would no close upon activation of local release mechanism.

Fire-extinguishing arrangments in machinery spaces of category A, in addition to the fixed fire-extinguishing system, must be protected by an approved type of fixed water-based or equivalent local application fire-fighting system, based on the guidelines developed by the Organization. In the case of periodically unattended machiner spaces, the fire-fighting system shall have both automatic and manual release capabilities. The vessel was not constructed with a means of activating the local fixed fire-extinguishing system in Deck 2 for the FWD and AFT boiler. During the abandon ship drill, the vessel deployed a 16 passenger training life raft when the vessel carries 35 passenger life rafts.
