capable of being closed from outside the spaces being
ventilated. The means of closing shall be easily accessible
as well as prominently and permanently marked and shall indicate the operating position of the closing device. PSCO observed Fire damper in the EDG (SOD-32) did not close during operational test, indication light on pantry storage and main galley (SOD-09 and EF-05) were extinguished and did not indicate damper position.

Such means shall consist of a door-latching mechanism incorporating a device that releases the latch upon the application of a force in the direction of escape flow. PSCO observed twist door locks in the lock position fitted on emergency exits leading to private balconies on deck 5.

Fire doors in main vertical zone bulkheads, galley boundaries and stairway enclosures, except those for emergency escape trunks, shall be capable of remote release from the continuously manned central control station, either simultaneously or in groups, and shall be capable of release also individually from a position at both sides of the door. Release switches shall have an on-off function to prevent automatic resetting of the system. Sliding fire doors 3-5 and 3-7 were unable to be closed from the centrally manned control station.

In passenger ships constructed on or after 01 July 2010, aupplementary lighting shall be provided in all cabins to clearly indicate the exit so that occupants will be able to find their way to the door. Such lighting, which may be connected to an emergency source of electrical power in each cabin, shall automatically illuminate when power to the normal cabin lighting is lost and remain on for a minimum of 30 min. Hospital space had no emergency lighting.
