The installation and inspection of materials, machinery, and piping must comply with Subchapter F. Nonmetallic flexible hoses must be in accordance with SAE J1942 and may be installed in lube oil and fuel systems. A nonmetallic fuel hose on the port generator was found to be severely chaffed. The crew satisfactorily replaced the fuel hose.

Each vessel must meet the applicable requirements in Subchapter S of this chapter. The watertight door leading to the engine room space was observed to have air passing through and was not watertight. The crew reworked the doors gasket, and the door was made watertight.

A vessel of less than 100 gross tons must have adequate emergency lighting fitted along the line of escape to the main deck from accommodations and working (machinery) spaces below the main deck. An emergency light near the aft engine room escape hatch extinguished during testing of emergency lighting. The crew replaced the lights battery and proved satisfactory operation of the light.

A person may not employ or engage an individual in a position required to hold an MMC unless that individual maintains a current medical certificate. Captain of the vessel was unable to provide proof he holds a valid medical certificate. Captain must obtain a valid medical certificate.

When the repairs or alterations have been made, notice must be given to this OCMI as soon as practicable. Vessel is permitted to transit to Superior Shipyard in Golden Meadow, LA to conduct repairs. Vessel may not conduct any other movements or be in service until repairs are completed.
