Escape doors from public spaces that are normally latched shall be fitted with a means of quick release. Such means shall consist of a door-latching mechanism incorporating a device hat releases the latch upon application of a force in the direction of escape flow. The means of escape from the salon to the gym, the gym to the outer deck, Deck 6 leading to the lifeboat embarkation decks, and other locations throughout the vessel had lockable doors not fitted with quick release.

The construction of doors and door frames in 'A' class divisions, with the means of securing them when closed, shall provide resistance of fire as well as to the passage of smoke and flame equivalent to that of the bulkheads in which the doors are situated. PSCO observed A-class fire door 4612.0P2.021 and fire door 4612.071G.003 did not latch properly.
