Pre-engineered gas system not meeting the following requirements: -Must shut-down required blower system inside fuel tank compartment upon activation. Must make repairs to satisfaction of USCG Marine Inspector.

Where a fixed gas fire extinguishing system is installed in a space, all powered exhaust blowers for the gasoline fuel tank space must automatically shut-down upon release of the extinguishing agent. Must rectify to satisfaction of USCG Marine Inspector.

All Marine Employers must submit drug testing program data required by 49 CFR 40.26. Must show proof that MIS report was submitted IAW 46 CFR Part 16.

Endorsements on Certificates of Documentation are valid for one 1 year. MI discovered expired COD. Provide documentation of renewal process to MI.

A vessel on a oceans, coastwise, limited coastwise, and Great Lakes Routes must carry- six hand red flare distress signals. Four of the red distress signals were expired, owner/operator replaced on the spot.

A vessel not required to have a power driven fire pump by § 181.300 must have at least three 9.5 liter (21/2 gallon) buckets, with an attached lanyard satisfactory to the cognizant OCMI. Vessel only had 2 fire buckets.

A pre-engineered fixed gas fire extinguishing system must: (4) be installed in accordance with manufacturer's instructions. The electrical hull penetrations are not vapor tight.

Where a flexible fill pipe section is necessary, suitable flexible tubing or hose having high resistance to salt water, petroleum oils, heat and vibration, may be used. Such hose must overlap metallic pipe ends at the least 11/2 times the pipe diameter and must be secured at each end by clamps. The flexible section must be accessible and as near the upper end of the fill pipe as practicable. When the flexible section is a nonconductor of electricity, the metallic sections of the fill pipe separated thereby must be joined by a conductor for protection against generation of a static charge when filling with fuel. MI discovered fuel fill line was not grounded.

Gasoline fuel tank venting system has two tank vent valves, with internal hose diameters of 0.3125 inches. As per 46 CFR 182.450(b), the minimal net cross sectional area for a gasoline fuel tank vent pipe must not be less than the cross-sectional area of 0.75 inches outer diameter tubing with a wall thickness of 0.035 inches. Reducing the hose diameter beyond the carbon filter inlet sizing is not justified. Please submit a revised plan demonstrating compliance to MSC and OCMI.

Vessel uses Trident 365 fuel hoses meeting SAE J-1527. As per 46 CFR 182.720(e)(3), this hose may be used in your fuel system provided it is limited to 30 inches in length and subject to pressures not exceeding 5 psig. Current arrangement exceeds 30". This issue shall be addressed to the satisfaction of the cognizant OCMI.
