A vessel not required to have a power driven fire pump by § 181.300 must have at least three 9.5 liter (21/2 gallon) buckets, with an attached lanyard satisfactory to the cognizant OCMI, placed so as to be easily available during an emergency. The words “FIRE BUCKET” must be stenciled in a contrasting color on each bucket. Vessel must add wording and lanyard to fire buckets as well as supply additional 2 fire buckets on board.

The discharge ends of fuel tank vent pipes must be fitted with removable flame screens or flame arresters. The flame screens must consist of a single screen of corrosion resistant wire of at least 30 × 30 mesh. Vessel's fuel vent needs appropriate mesh installed.
