Horizontal doors (doors installed in decks) are allowed only for access to spaces that are accessible only to crew members and are used only by crew members, subject to the following requirements:(i) The door must be self-closing with a closure time of not less than 5 seconds and not more than 10 seconds, and be capable of closing against a 3.5 list of the vessel. Marine Inspector identified the door leading from the galley into the refer space could not self close due to installed grip tape on the door frame. Remove grip tape and provide proof that the door can close completely.

Each general emergency alarm signal must be marked “GENERAL ALARM—WHEN EMERGENCY ALARM SIGNAL RINGS GO TO YOUR STATION” in red letters at least 1/2 inch high. Marine Inspector identified there was no emergency placard for the general alarm in the engine room. Provide proof of a general alarm placard for the engine room general alarm.

Electrical equipment on a vessel must be installed and maintained to: (b) protect passengers, crew, other persons, and the vessel from electrical hazards, including fire, caused by or originating in electrical equipment, and electrical shock. Per CG-2692 submitted on 26 August, vessel's port generator, on 21 August, was smoking and smelled of electrical burning. The report stated the rotor coil had failed and arced causing the wire and coating to burn in at least one location inside the generator. Vessel is to submit an electrician / servicing technician report attesting to the repair of the system and demonstrate satisfactory operation to the attending Marine Inspector, prior to the carriage of passengers.
