They shall be so constructed, that if subjected to the standard fire test, they would be capable of preventing the passage of flame and smoke for one hour. Marine Inspector observed two bulkhead penetrations in the aft machinery space. Fill penetrations with approved material meeting the requirements for "A" Class boundary to the satisfaction of the attending Marine Inspector. 46 CFR 92.07-5(b)

If the generator is operating from a power take-off, such as a shaft driven generator on a main propulsion engine, the generator must automatically declutch (disconnect) from the prime mover upon loss of lubricating pressure to generator bearings. Inspector was unable to witness satisfactory low lube oil pressure alarm with engine shutdown on all three ships service generators. When operating a vessel on a body of water where the discharge of untreated sewage is prohibited by the Environmental Protection Agency under 40 CFR 140.3, the operator must secure each Type III device in a manner which prevents discharge of sewage. Acceptable methods of securing the device include - (1) Closing each valve leading to an overboard discharge and removing the handle; (2) Padlocking each valve leading to an overboard discharge in the closed position; or (3) Using a non-releasable wire-tie to hold each valve leading to an overboard discharge in the closed position. MSD over board valve was not locked. Vessel is replacing MSD with new system. 33 CFR 1593.7(c)
