A vessel must comply with the applicable requirements for installation certificates to be issued by the Federal Communications Commission, as set forth in 47 CFR part 80. Vessels operating beyond 20 NM but not more than 100 NM from land are required to be equipped with both a medium frequency digital selective calling (MF-DCS) transmitter and a very high frequency digital selective calling (VHF-DSC) radiotelephone.
