The intent of a radio installation is to establish communications during emergencies. The vessel’s route allows the vessel to go out up to 100 NMs from shore. The vessels SSB radio is not equipped with a DSC alert; therefore, the vessel is unable to contact anyone during emergencies as the CG and vessels with GMDSS only rely on the SSB DSC to hear distress calls. Replace vessels SSB with a model containing DSC capability. In addition, the vessel does not have a reserve power supply. Install appropriate reserve power supply or as an acceptable alternative, provide a VHF FM handheld radio with appropriate charger. The FCC issuing authority for the Radiotelephony Certificate utilized an outdated “How to Conduct an Inspection of a Small Passenger Vessel” checklist. Provide new Radiotelephony Certificate using the updated checklist, revision 2021.02.24.
