KAHUNA

A vessel to which this subchapter applies may not be operated without having on board a valid U.S. Coast Guard Certificate of Inspection. The KAHUNA COI expired on January 24, 2024. The vessel is not permitted to operate with passengers until the COI is renewed. 46 CFR 176.100(a)

An inspection for renewal of a Certificate of Inspection is conducted to determine if the vessel is in satisfactory condition, fit for the service intended, and complies with all applicable regulations. It normally includes inspection and testing of the structure, machinery, equipment, and on a sailing vessel, rigging and sails. The owner or operator must conduct all tests as required by the OCMI, and make the vessel available for all specific inspections and drills required by subpart H of this part. In addition, the OCMI may require the vessel to get underway. You must submit your written application for renewal of a Certificate of Inspection to the OCMI at least 30 days prior to the expiration date of the Certificate of Inspection, as required in § 176.105 of this part. The COI expired and the vessel is not ready for a renewal of the COI. 46 CFR 176.404

Primary overcurrent protection is not installed to protect the conductor from the alternator to the DC distribution system. A UL listed fuse or UL 489 breaker is required to be installed.

Vessel less than 12 meters must have masthead light, stern lights and sidelights. Install missing coast guard approved masthead light and stern light.

Relocate VHF antennae away from navigation lights.

Repair inoperable bilge high level alarm for FWD void.

Master shall conduct drills to ensure crew members are familiar with their duties. Prove log book details entry of drills conducted.

VSL of at least 26' must be provided with audible and visual alarms for bilge high water level. Installed bilge high level alarm is not operational.

Flexible hose for portable gasoline tank must be USCG type A1, A2, B1 or B2. Installed USCG approved fuel hose and remove unused fuel hose attached to fuel water separator housing.

Steering system must be suitable conditions and fit for service intended. Hydraulic ram has severe corrosion around hydraulic hose fitting.

A visual and audible bilge high level alarm must provided at the operating station. Repair identified inoperable alarm and demonstrate proper operations.

Rails or equivalent protection must be installed near the periphery of all decks accessible to passenger. Missing portion of rails in bow and port side areas.

Life jackets must be marked with Type I retroreflective material. Replace damaged reflective tapes.

VSL must carry first aid kit approved under 160.041. Found expired eye wash solution and aspirin in first aid kit.

VSL must carry up-to-date charts and nautical pubs for intended voyage. Update all 2019 nautical pubs with current pubs.

Portable CO2 must be service annually. Service tag on CO2 shows last service conducted was 2019.

Vessel must have navigation lights that are in compliance with Inland Navigation Rules. Port and starboard side lights are not operational.

VSL with lakes, bays, and sounds routes must carry three red distress signals and three orange smoke distress signals or (06) total red distress signals. VSl have only (04)red distress signals.

Emergency drills shall be logged. Proved proof of conducted drills.

Vessel not required to meet 46CFR181.300 must have at least (03) fire buckets with attached lanyard and stenciled "FIRE BUCKET". No marking on fire buckets on board.

Company must have drug and alcohol programs for the crew members. No proof of drug and alcohol program on board.

Vessel must have current FCC Station License. VSL have FCC Station License expired 29NOV2018.

Master must have valid Medical Certificate. Provide proof of valid medical certificate.

Vessel must have a log to records drills conducted. Provide record of emergency drills conducted.

Vessel must have compass on board. Install missing compass.

Vessel must have bell on board. Install sound device on board. As required by COLREGS 72

Vessel must be fitted with ground tackle. Replace rusted / wasted anchor chain.

Vessel must carry up-to-date light list for intended route.

Instruction for donning life jackets must be post in conspicuous place, visible to passenger and crew.

Ring life buoy must have 60-foot floatable non-kinking black line attached.

Remove dead-end wires under control station.

Repair inoperable bilge high water alarm in forward starboard space.

Vessel must have two operable portable battery lights.

Vessel must carry approved first- aid kit.

Vessel machinery must be capable of operating at constant load as designed and approve by Coast Guard. 46 CFR 182.200. Vessel propulsion lost power and speed. Conduct repairs I.A.W. engine manufacture instruction and operational test to be attested by attending Coast Guard Inspector.

Missing life jacket placards. Instruction for donning and use of life jacket must be post in conspicuous place visible to the crew and passengers as required by 46 CFR 185.516. Post lifejackets instruction placards.

Last service dated Dec 2015. operator shall provide satisfactory evidence of required servicing for portable CO2 fire extinguishers as required b 46 CFR 176.810.

Faded marking on fire buckets. The word 'FIRE BUCKET" must be stenciled in a contrasting color on each bucket as required by 46 CFR 181.610. Re-stencil on board fire buckets.

Missing Certification expiration date sticker. Certification expiration date sticker must be affixed to vessel visible to passenger, Coast Guard law enforcement personnel as required by 46 CFR 176.310. Post stickers to the satisfaction of the attending Maine Inspector.
