The construction and arrangement of a vessel must allow the safe operation of the vessel in accordance with the terms of its Certificate of Inspection giving consideration to provisions for protection against fire. Marine inspector observed a fuel leak under the shipboard generator. Secure leak and ensure residual fuel is cleaned up.

Resolution: Vessel Rep cordinated with mechanic to secure fuel leak on generator. Marine inspector verified on site ALL SAT.

Portable and semi-portable extinguishers must be inspected and maintained in accordance with NFPA 10 (incorporated by reference, see § 175.600 of this chapter). Marine inspector observed the portable fire extinguisher at the operating station to be in need of recharge.

Resolution: Vessel Rep replaced under pressured fire extinguisher with a new extinguisher. Marine inspector verified on site ALL SAT.

Protect passengers, crew, other persons, and the vessel from electrical hazards, including fire, caused by or originating in electrical equipment, and electrical shock. Marine inspector observed exposed wires in: aft port engine room on bulkhead and under helm at the operating station. Properly enclose wiring to reduce hazards.

Resolution: Vessel Rep covered exposed wiring with approved means, the aft engineroom wiring was encased in a junction box and the wiring under the operation station was removed. Marine inspector verified on site ALL SAT.
