Repairs or alterations to the hull, machinery, or equipment that affect the safety of the vessel must not be made without the approval of the cognizant OCMI, except during an emergency. A gasketed metallic coupling (Straub fitting) was installed to connect new bilge pipe to existing bilge pipe in the lazarette instead of welding. This is installation was not included in the original repair plan and is considered a temporary repair at this time.
