A vessel on a lakes, bays, and sounds, or rivers route must carry:(1) Three hand red flare distress signals approved in accordance with § 160.021 in subchapter Q of this chapter, or other standard specified by the Commandant; and(2) Three hand orange smoke distress signals approved in accordance with § 160.037 in subchapter Q of this chapter, or other standard specified by the Commandant.
All of the distress signals on the vessel were expired.

MI observed that there were no donning instructions posted for the lifejackets kept on board. There was one placard posted, but it was of a manufacturer that the vessel did not have.

If any of the equipment or records have not been properly maintained, a qualified servicing facility must perform the required inspections, maintenance procedures, and hydrostatic pressure tests. Maintenance was being conducted but not documented in a log. This corresponds with Monthly maintenance under NFPA 10.
