11 - Life Saving Appliances › N/A - No Subsystem › Launching arrangements for survival craft

Unless expressly provided otherwise, launching and embarkation appliances complying with the requirements of section 6.1 of the Code shall be provided for all survival craft... Each lifeboat shall be provided with an appliance which is capable of launching and recovering the lifeboat. Every launching appliance shall be fitted with brakes capable of stopping the descent of the survival craft of rescue boat and holding securely when loaded with its full complement of persons and equipment; brake pads shall, when necessary, be protected from water and oil. LEXA MAERSK reported vessel's boat launching equipment is malfunctioning, and is unable to hoist the vessel.

Each cargo ship shall have one or more totally enclosed lifeboats complying with the requirements of 4.6 of the Code. A food ration as described in 4.1.5.1.18 not totalling less than 10,000 kJ for each person the lifeboat is permitted to accomodate; these rations shall be kept in airtight packaging and be stowed in a watertight container. 15 of the required 76 food rations were found to be unserviceable. 74 SOLAS (2014 CONS)III/31.1.1.1.1/ LSA Code IV/4.4.8.12
