A vessel on a lakes, bays, and sounds, or rivers route must carry: (1) Three hand red flare distress signals approved in accordance with § 160.021 in subchapter Q of this chapter, or other standard specified by the Commandant; and (2) Three hand orange smoke distress signals approved in accordance with § 160.037 in subchapter Q of this chapter, or other standard specified by the Commandant. At the time of inspection, the vessel did not have three hand orange smoke distress signals onboard. Operator shall obtain the required distress signals and provide satisfactory evidence of the same to the attending Marine Inspector. 46 CFR 180.68(b)

At the time of inspection, the vessel's waterlight was found to have a battery that was providing insufficient power to meet the required performance standard outlined in subchapter Q. Operator shall obtain a new battery approved for use with the vessel's waterlight, and demonstrate to the attending Marine Inspector that the installation meets the performance requirements. 46 CFR 180.70(d)

Resolution: Operator sent one of his deckhands to West Marine during the Inspection to purchase a new battery designed for use with the vessel's waterlight. Operator was able to install and demonstrate satisfactory function of the waterlight during the inspection.

The bridge-to-bridge radiotelephone station will be inspected on vessels subject to regular inspections pursuant to the requirements of Parts II and III of Title III of the Communications Act, the Safety Convention, or subpart T of this part at the time of the regular inspection. If after such inspection, the Commission determines that the Bridge-to-Bridge Act, the rules of the Commission and the station license are met, an endorsement will be made on the appropriate document. The validity of the endorsement will run concurrently with the period of the regular inspection. Each vessel must carry a certificate with a valid endorsement while subject to the Bridge-to-Bridge Act. At the time of inspection, the vessel's Radio-telephony and Bridge-to-Bridge Certificates were found to have expired. Operator shall arrange for re-inspection of the vessel's radio installation and report attainment of the new certificates endorsing the vessel's installation to the attending Marine Inspector. 47 CFR 80.1005
