Repairs or alterations to the hull, machinery, or equipment that affect the safety of the vessel must not be made without the approval of the cognizant [name withheld] the annual inspection, observed an elongated eye on the chainplate at the connection for the furling forestay, a cracked weld on the forestay chainplate support bracket, fractures found on underside of decking around the forestay inside the forward compartment, missing welds at the forestay chainplate bottom support, and a complete weld fracture at the port sidelong support. A repair proposal is required to be submitted and approved prior to work being started. Authorized bare-poles only transit to the repair yard. No welding of aluminum allowed if the aluminum is below the waterline.

In accordance with NVIC 02-16, masts, spars and appendages should be unstepped once every 6 years. Prior to the vessel operating under sail, the vessel will need to down rig, unstep and make available for inspection for the Coast Guard all masts, spars, standing rigging, running rigging, blocks, fittings, and sails.
