Components of a diesel engine fuel system shall be designed considering the maximum peak pressure which will be experienced in service, including any high pressure pulses which are generated and transmitted back into the fuel supply and spill lines by the action of fuel injection pumps. Connections within the fuel supply and spill lines shall be constructed having regard to their ability to prevent pressurized oil fuel leaks while in service and after maintence. PSCO observed atomized fuel leak on number 2 generator, on number 2 cylinder.

The machinery, boilers, and other pressure vessels associated piping systems and fittings shall be of a design and construction adequate for the service for which they are intended and shall be so installed and protected as to reduce to a minimum any danger to persons on board due regard being paid to moving parts hot surfaces and other hazards. The design shall have regard to materials used in construction, the purpose for which the quipment is intended, the working conditions to which it will be subjected and the enviornmental conditions on board. PSCO observed excessive leakage from fire/ballast water pump in engine room. Leak appears to be coming from loose packing glands.
