At each initial and subsequent inspection for certification of a vessel, the owner or managing operator shall be prepared to conduct tests and have the vessel ready for inspections of machinery,. . . including the following: Operational test and inspection of engine control mechanisms including primary and alternate means of starting machinery. During inspection, vessel's starboard main diesel engine (MDE)could not be started from the pilothouse. Vessel staff determined a faulty solenoid was the issue, it was replaced during the inspection, and engine could once again be started from the pilothouse.
