A vessel must be provided with a main steering gear that is of adequate strength and capable of steering the vessel at all service speeds. Vessel reported lose of steering due to ruptured hydraulic steering hose. Vessel is restricted from movement until appropriate repairs are carried out on steering system and proper operation is witnessed by an attending marine inspector.

Provisions shall be made by means of plugs, covers, etc., to prevent the admission of air into the space protected. Vessel is an existing vessel with a hull, or a machinery space boundary bulkhead or deck, composed of wood and must be equipped with a fixed gas fire extinguishing system, on or before March 11, 1999. Vessel has numerous ventilation openings (08) on the exterior hull just below the weather deck, openings connect to side tunnels and tunnels connect to engine room space. There are no means to secure ventilation openings in the hull that connect directly to a space protected by a fixed gas extinguishing system. Submit plans to modify vessel to comply with all provisions required for a space with a fixed gas extinguishing system, plans must be approved by local OCMI prior to any modifications or alterations to vessel. 46 CFR 181.20-35(a) OLD T Regulations

Prior to movement, repair hydraulic hose and provide technician's report stating the steering system is in good working order and demonstrate proper operation to the satisfaction of the attending USCG Marine Inspector. 46 CFR 182.610, 60c.

Machinery, equipment, materials, and arrangements not covered by the standards in this subchapter may be inspected in accordance with standards acceptable to the cognizant OCMI as good marine practice. The main engine suffered a oil leak from a ruptured hose due to chafing on the battery box. Replace ruptured hose to the satisfaction of an attending marine inspector prior to the carriage of passengers.

Repairs or alterations to the hull, machinery, or equipment that effect the safety of the vessel must not be made without the approval of the [name withheld] is not authorized to carry passengers/cargo until proper hull repairs have been made to the satisfaction of the attending Marine Inspector.

Vessel is required to prove proper operation of the steering system to the satisfaction of the attending marine inspector.

Renew wasted components of steering system on Island end and Peninsula end of vessel. To consist of steering rods, bearings, and packing glands.

Make pressure vessel ready for inspection.

Required operator to place double hose clamps on engine cooling system hose.

EAP supervisor had not completed required 60 minute training.

Replace belt for auxiliary bilge pump/washdown. LEGACY COMPONENT DESC: Pump

Conduct hydrostatic test on air receivers. LEGACY COMPONENT DESC: Receiver/Bottle

Provide proof of operation bilge high level alarm.

Seal limber holes in outboard corners of engine room tunnels.

Provide dirt traps extending at least two inches past the last discharge nozzle on each end.

Provide operating instructions at manual pull station.

Repair bilge piping at peninsula end lazaret, not later than 21May99.

Provide current deviation table not later than 21May99.

Provide proper marking for bilge manifold.

MAKE THE AIR RECEIVER AVAILABLE FOR INTERNAL EXAMINATION BY A MARINE INSPECTOR.

PROVIDE COVER FOR BATTERIES.

INSTALL PROPER WIRE CONNECTIONS TO ALL RUNNING LIGHT FIXTURES.

PROVE PROPER OPERATION OF THE INSTALLED VHF RADIO PRIOR TO CARRYING PASSENGERS, THE VESSEL MUST HAVE AN OPERATING VHF RADIO.

RENEW SIX (6) WASTED ANGLE BRACKETS AND BOLTS IN WAY OF 1ST TRANSVERSE MEMBER ON ISLAND END LAZARETTE

REPLACE TRANSVERSE BEAMS ON BOTH SIDES OF FRESH WATER TANK.

RENEW ANGLE BRACKET AND BOLTS IN WAY OF 1ST TRANSVERSE MEMBER PENINSULA ENDOUT BOARD ON STACK SIDE OF VESSEL_x001C_ _x001C_ _x001C_

PROVIDE AND INSTALL A PROPER BATTERY TRAY._x001C_

CLEAN AND TREAT DRY ROT IN THE HULL._x001C_

INSTALL METALLIC HEAT DIFFUSERS ON THE TWO FUEL OIL STRAINERS IN THE ENGINESPACE.

INSTALL A COVER FOR THE WIRE JUNCTION BOX IN ENGINE SPACE.

REPLACE THREE (3) WOOD SECTIONS ABOVE EXHAUST ON STACK SIDE.

REPLACE SOLID CORE ELECTRICAL CONDUCTORS WITH STRANDED CONDUCTORS IAW 46 CFR 183.05-45(B).

ATTACH A CAPTIVE CHAIN OR OTHER DEVICE TO SECURE ALL DECK HATCHES IAW 46 CFR 171.124(A)(2).

CLEAN AND TREAT ROT IN WAY OF THE VACUUM CYLINDER, ISLAND END; OUTSIDE OF HULL BY MUFFLER AND DECK AREA BENEATH THE FIRE EXTINGUISHERS ON THE MUFFLER SIDE OF VESSEL.

LABEL ALL BILGE VALVES AT BILGE MANIFOLD.

MOUNT FIRE EXTINGUISHER IN HOUSE IN A BRACKET.

MOUNT BATTERIES IN LEAD (OR OTHER SUITABLE MATERIAL) TRAY AS PER 46 CFR 183.05-20(D).

PROVIDE EIGHT ADDITIONAL ADULT PFD'S.

REPAIR KEEL BLOCK AREAS BY CROPPING AND INSERTING NEW WOOD TO ORIGINAL.

RENEW/REPLACE THE VESSEL'S TWO (2) PROPELLERS AND TWO (2) TAILSHAFTS.

CLEAN AND TREAT DRYROT WOOD IN ENGINEROOM AND THE TWO (2) COMPARTMENTS OUTBOARD OF ENGINEROOM.

REPLACE THE WOOD DECKING FOR THE CENTER DRIVEWAY SECTION OF THE MAIN (CAR) DECK. REPLACE ENTIRE LENGTH.
