46 CFR 184.620(a) - A vessel must have two independent means of controlling each propulsion engine. Control must be provided for the engine speed, direction of shaft rotation, and engine shutdown. The throttle control panel is powered from the port battery and when disconnected, throttle control is lost for both engines. Provide independent power sources for both engine throttles and demonstrate satisfactory operation to the attending Marine Inspector.

Vessel has installed new main engines and a new generator. Weights of old and new equipment shall be submitted to MSC for review, and until a determination is made the vessels passenger count has been reduced by 6 people for a total of 138 passengers.

Conduct repairs to the port propulsion system, to include the port tail shaft, reduction gear, engine mounts, cracked longitudinals in way of the port shaft, main engine and any other damaged components associated with the uncoupling of the port shaft. Provide copies of dive surveys and any associated technician's reports. All work and tests shall be to the satisfaction of the attending marine inspector.

Resolution: Conducted vessel ride along after completed repairs. The vessel port shaft and engine is restored to working condition and fit for intended route and service.
