At a minimum, vessel operators must conduct an internal examination and take random hull gaugings internally during the hull condition assessment, unless waived by the Officer in Charge, Marine Inspection (OCMI). The OCMI requires the annual hull assessment to attest to the depth of the identified areas of pitting to ensure the corrosion is arrested. The areas of pitting must be included in the required preventative maintenance reports to include permanent markings on the inside of the hull structure to accurately identify the location of the pits for future inspections and ultrasonic/non-destructive testing.
