A lifejacket complying with the requirements of regulation 32.1 and 32.2 shall be provided for every person on board the ship. PSCO observed 05 inoeprable lifejackets, and upon further examination, crew reported 16 operable of the required 24 crew members. The tears on each lifejacket were the result of improper installation of the lifejacket lights, not following the manufacturer's specifications. The master shall provide evidence and a class report of a remote survey attesting to the proper installation of water-activated lights without compromising the integrity of the lifejacket material. A remote survey is acceptable to meet this for rectification. 74 SOLAS (97) III/7.2.1

PAINT LOCKERS UNLESS THE ADMINISTRATION IS SATISFIED THAT SUCH EQUIPMENT IS OF A TYPE WHICH WILL NOT IGNITE THE MIXTURE CONCERNED; APPROPRIATE TO THE SPACE CONCERNED; AND APPROPRIATELY CERTIFIED FOR SAFE USAGE IN THE... GASES LIKELY TO BE ENCOUNTERED. PSCO OBSERVED ATLEAST TWO LIGHT FIXTURES IN THE PAINT LOCKER THAT DO NOT APPEAR TO BE SUITABLE ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT FOR THE INTENDED USE IN THAT SPACE.
