Each portable fire extinguisher on a vessel must be of an approved type. The minimum number of portable fire extinguishers required on a vessel must be acceptable to the cognizant Officer in Charge, Marine Inspection, but must not be fewer than the minimum number required by table 1 to § 181.500(b) and other provisions of this section. Vessel was missing 01 fire extinguisher required by COI; a new 3A 40BC fire extinguisher was purchased and installed. 46 CFR 181.500 (a)

A vessel not required to have a power driven fire pump by § 181.300 must have at least three 9.5 liter (21/2 gallon) buckets, with an attached lanyard satisfactory to the cognizant OCMI, placed so as to be easily available during an emergency. The words “FIRE BUCKET” must be stenciled in a contrasting color on each bucket. Vessel was missing 1 of 3 required fire buckets; missing bucket was installed aboard during inspection. 46 CFR 181.610

A space containing machinery powered by, or fuel tanks for, gasoline must have a ventilation system that complies with this section and consists of: (ii) A mechanical exhaust system consisting of at least two ventilation exhaust ducts located at the end of the space opposite from where the supply ducts are fitted, which extend to the lowest part of the bilge of the space on each side of the space, and which are led to one or more powered exhaust blowers. Vessel's rear ventilation exhaust duct in the fuel tank space is disconnected and incomplete. Make permanent repairs to restore original functionality to the rear ducting within 30 days. 46 CFR 182.460 (a) (ii)

Exhaust blower switches must be located outside of any space required to be ventilated by this section, and must be of the type interlocked with the starting switch and the ignition switch so that the blowers are started before the engine starter motor circuit or the engine ignition is energized. A red warning sign at the switch must state that the blowers must be operated prior to starting the engines for the time sufficient to insure at least one complete change of air in the space served. Vessel does not have a blower warning sign. Install signage as required for the minimum time sufficient for 1 complete air change of below deck space within 30 days. 46 CFR 182.460 (e)

An adult life jacket must be provided for each person carried on board a vessel. Four adult life jackets were found in unserviceable condition. Vessel provided four new adult life jackets from office. 46 CFR 180.71

Each survival craft must be:(2)Stowed so that when the vessel sinks the survival craft floats free and, if inflatable, inflates automatically. Vessel's life float was inadvertently secured to vessel and not float free. Vessel reinstalled life float to make float free. 46 CFR 180.130 (a) (2)

Repairs or alterations to the hull, machinery, or equipment that affect the safety of the vessel must not be made without the approval of the cognizant [name withheld] or alterations that affect the safety of the vessel include, but are not limited to: replacement, repair, or refastening of deck or hull planking, plating, and structural members; repair of plate or frame cracks; damage repair or replacement, other than replacement in kind, of electrical wiring, fuel lines, tanks, boilers and other pressure vessels, and steering, propulsion and power supply systems; alterations affecting stability; and repair or alteration of lifesaving, fire detecting, or fire extinguishing equipment. Vessel plans to replace collar structures with a new manufacture (Inventech currently aboard, Wing being installed) on 12 April 2026. This change has implications on structural and stability approvals issued by the Marine Safety Center (MSC) Provide MSC with necessary information for review and provide MSC's final evaluation to [name withheld].46 CFR 176.700(a)

A vessel must be provided with bilge pumps in accordance with Table 182.520(a). A submersible electric bilge pump may be used provided that: The pump is listed by an independent laboratory as meeting the requirements in UL 1113. Aft bilge pump inoperable and not meeting the requirements of UL 1113. Pump requires renewal. 46CFR182.520

A flammable vapor detection system must provide a visual and audible alarm at the operating station. Flammable vapor detection system inoperable. Provide proof of operating flammable vapor detection system. 46CFR182.480(d)

Each vessel that operates on high seas must have on board a FCC Type Accepted Category 1, 406 MHz EPIRB, installed to automatically float free and activate. Provide proof for expiration date for hydrostatic release unit. 46CFR180.64

Each item of lifesaving equipment determined by the marine inspector to not be in serviceable condition must be repaired or replaced. Provide (02) marked paddles for life float. Provide proof for expiration date for hydrostatic release unit. Vessel shall not operate more than 3 miles from shore until life float equipment and and free floating stowage requirements are met. 46CFR176.808(b)

A vessel must carry either a first-aid kit that meets the requirements in 46 CFR 199.175(b)(10) or a kit with equivalent contents and instructions. First aid kit onboard requires renewal for expired content. 46CFR184.710

A flammable vapor detection system must provide a visual and audible alarm at the operating station. The flammable vapor detection system is not working. Provide proof of operating flammable vapor detection system. 46CFR182.480(d)

The minimum number of portable fire extinguishers required on a vessel must not be fewer than the minimum number required by Table 181.500(b). Vessel needs an additional 2-A rated portable fire extinguisher for the Accommodation space. 46CFR181.500(a)

A vessel must be fitted with ground tackle and mooring lines necessary for the vessel to be safely anchored or moored. The anchor is broken and unusable. Repair or replace the anchor. 46CFR184.300

The construction and arrangement of a vessel must allow the safe operation of the vessel in accordance with the terms of its Certificate of Inspection giving consideration to necessary facilities for passengers and crew. The port quarter ladder bracket is wasted. Repair or replace bracket. 46CFR177.100
