02 - Structural Conditions › N/A - No Subsystem › Electrical installations in general
Issued 10 July 2019
Resolved
Electrical equipment on a vessel must be installed and
maintained to:(a) Provide services necessary for safety
under normal and emergency conditions;(b) Protect
passengers, crew, other persons, and the vessel from
electrical hazards, including fire, caused by or
originating in electrical equipment, and electrical
shock;(c) Minimize accidental personnel contact with
energized parts; and (d) Prevent electrical ignition of
flammable vapors. Circuit leading from stbd generator to
a ventilation closure solenoid, shorted and back-fed
current to ground at stbd generator. Engine was isolated
due to rubber gaskets between engine mounts preventing
safe ground. it is believed that the current
found the easiest path through the engines fuel line
causing the fuel line to fail. Provide full analysis of
this deficiency and your repair proposal. Ensure all
materials used are as per manufacturer/regulatory
requirement. Deficiency must be cleared in the presence
of a USCG Marine Inspector.
Action required: 701 - Prior to carriage of passengers/cargo
Resolved 11 July 2019
