Suitable covers, guards, or rails shall be installed in way of all exposed and hazardous places such as gears, machinery, etc. The operator failed to provide an appropriate means to safeguard the exposed port and starboard rotating shafts in the engine-room. Deficiency to be rectified during hull out.

MI discovered excessive pitting in the lazarette, aft bulkhead as well as on the port side of the fuel tank on the bottom. Vessel to properly crop and renew areas at next dry dock. 46 CFR 176.300
