The fire detection system must be an approved type installed IAW part 76 in Subchapter H. The power supply and emergency power supply for all fire detection and alarm systems must be IAW 46 CFR chapter I, Subchapter J. The following emergency power loads must be arranged so that they can be energized from the temporary emergency power source. Auto prime heat/fire detection system has a backup battery fault. Contractor did not deem anything wrong with the system when attending the vessel on 9/30, however, the system is not operating as intended. Determine the cause of the fault and repair to ensure detection system will operate on back-up power source.

The expiration date of the battery may be marked on the battery in clearly legible letters or the owner or managing operator may have a record of the expiration date from the manufacturer marked with a serial number. Batteries for three ring life buoy water lights were expired. Replaced during the inspection.
