(b) An internal structural examination conducted in compliance with § 176.600 may be conducted while the vessel is afloat or out of the water and consists of a complete examination of the vessel's main strength members, including the major internal framing, the hull plating... so that the inspector may be satisfied as to the condition of the hull structure... During Internal structural examination, Marine Inspectors found the following.
1. Deep pitting and corrosion on FWD Peak, Bow thruster space, Engine room, and steering compartment bottom plate and frames MIs found concentrated pitting on center line and surrounding areas. Using 3/8s as the thickness of the aluminum, some pits were as deep as 80%. Not all pits were measured during Internal Structural Exam. Requested operator to clean all spaces for further inspection. Please provide a plan to clean and preserve spaces.
2. There is a 3' x 2 inch hole in the port side engineroom side shell. Provide plan to repair.
3. There are 2 open penetrations in the collision bulkhead, penetrations are in the 2 corners where bulkhead meet the hull. Provide repair plan for review and approval.
4. There is a missing weld on the port side transverse frame allowing water to pass through collision bulkhead. Provide repair plan for review and approval.
5. MI found 2 missing welds on the bilge piping penetrating bulkhead. Allowing water to pass to the engineroom. Complete welds around bilge piping.
Create and maintain a daily inspection log for all spaces, to monitor pitting and corrosion. Ensure bilges
are dry at all times.
