Additionally, reaffix the label for the “vent fans fwd” button, which has fallen off.

The cargo hold watertight door at C deck, frame 198, port side, has an approximately 6-8 foot section of taped on dissimilar material on top of the normal gasket at the hinged side of the door. Provide documentation this arrangement is in accordance with manufacturer's specifications or remove. Subsequently prove watertightness of door to the satisfaction of the attending ABS surveyor.

The safety management system should provide for specific measures aimed at promoting the reliability of such equipment or systems. The current inventory for various critical spares is below the minimum required ROB established by the ISM Company. It appears the updates to the critical spare parts listed enacted on the sister ship Antares following the CG finding in report #7769465 have not been applied to the Denebola. Apply these changes and acquire any missing critical spare parts to the satisfaction of ABS and CG. Update 3/15/24: the deficiency due date has been extended to 6/13/24. The critical spare parts list has been updated and POs issued for the missing/needed critical spares.

All ships, irrespective of size, shall have a properly adjusted standard magnetic compass, independent of any power supply, to determine the ship’s heading and display the reading at the main steering position. At time of attendance the gyrocompass read 022° and the magnetic compass 049°. The local variation in Baltimore harbor per the provided nautical chart is currently 11°W. This would lead to a corresponding deviation of ~16°, which is substantially different than the listed deviation on the compass card of <1°. Update 3/29/23: at the request of the operator (communicated by ABS), this deficiency has been extended until 7/2/23, to support re-evaluation of the deviation at the soonest available opportunity (vessel activation or adjacent vessel movement).

At each inspection for certification and periodic inspection, the marine inspector shall conduct such tests and inspections of the main propulsion and auxiliary machinery and its associated equipment, including fluid control systems, as he feels necessary to check safe operations. There is no objective evidence that the manual hand trip on the steam-driven turbine feedwater pumps have been tested annually. Additionally, there is no objective evidence that the tripping point of <115 % max operating RPM has been verified at periodic intervals. Within 30 days, provide a proposal to the CG and ABS for verifying both these items in due course. At each inspection for certification and periodic inspection, the marine inspector shall conduct such tests and inspections of the main propulsion and auxiliary machinery and its associated equipment, including fluid control systems, as he feels necessary to check safe operations. There is no objective evidence that the overspeed trips on the main steam turbines have been tested at periodic intervals. Within 30 days, provide a proposal to the CG and ABS for verifying this item in due course.
