Fuel tanks are fitted with ball valves and clear plastic tubing as a means of determining the quantity of fuel in the tank. Tubular gauge glasses, if fitted to diesel fuel tanks, must be of heat resistant material, adequately protected from mechanical damage, and provided at the tank connections with devices that will automatically close in the event of rupture of the gauge or gauge lines. Until this discrepancy is corrected these valves shall remain closed. Prior to each trip with passengers the status of these valves will be verified by licensed crew and a log entry made.
