Each vessel certificated to operate on lakes, bays, and sounds route in cold water must be provided with a lifefloat approved under approval series 160.027, stowed in accordance with § 180.137 and be equipped in accordance with § 180.175(f). Lifefloat deficiencies: (1) Lifefloat is lashed to prevent float-free operation. (2) Missing (1) 4ft paddle and paddles not lashed to the lifefloat; vessel name not marked on paddles. (3) Incorrectly sized weak-link installed on painter. (4) Painter line not secured around the body of the lifefloat. (5) Retroreflective material is deteriorated. (6) Name of vessel not marked on lifefloat. Vessel is limited to warm water operations (15May - 31Oct) and 1 mile from land during cold water months until corrected.
