Vessels described by 46 CFR 175.110(c) must have an interconnected fire detection system in compliance with 181.450 installed in all enclosed areas where passengers and crew have routine access, including accommodation spaces and machinery spaces. Vessel had no detection system installed. Due to vessel size and arrangement, MI agreed that a UL 217 detector in the passenger area would meet requirement to protect passenger seating area and wheel house since E/R is not routinely accessed. Master and rep installed UL 217 smoke detector in passenger space that can be seen and heard from bridge operating station. 46 CFR 181.405(c)

The words "FIRE BUCKET" must be stenciled in a contrasting color on each bucket. Fire buckets did not have stenciling. Vessel hammered louver back to position without any damage and was able to mount closing device. 46 CFR 182.465(h)
