Each item of survival craft equipment must be of good quality, and efficient for the purpose it is intended to serve. MI observed the 22-person life float to be worn and damaged. Service life float to satisfaction of attending MI. Vessel is to have temporary or replacement life float on-board to meet required equipment listed on the COI.

On a vessel of more than 19.8 meters (65 feet) in length, the public address system must be a fixed installation and be audible during normal operating conditions throughout the accommodation spaces and all other spaces normally manned by crew members. A vessel that has a power driven fire pump, must have a sufficient number of fire hydrants to reach any part of the vessel using a single length fire hose. Portside fire main piping was found to be wasted, resulting in a hole that reduced the firefighting capability.

All cable and wire must be installed with metal supports spaced not more than 24 inches apart, in a manner to avoid chafing and damage. Portside overhead electrical wiring is attached with zip ties.

If the vessel carries more than one life float or buoyant apparatus in a group with each group secured by a painter. Each must be secured in a series or by a single painter. Top two lifefloats were attached in series but not to the bottom, in turn, not attached to the weak link.

An inspection for renewal of a Certificate of Inspection is conducted to determine if the vessel is in satisfactory condition, fit for the service intended, and complies with all applicable regulations.
