In general, compliance with the standards established by the American Bureau of Shipping will be considered satisfactory evidence of the structural efficiency of the vessel. Two cracked welds were found in the steering space. One of the cracks was on a short athwartships hull stringer and one of the cracks was on a longitudinal strength member in way of the starboard rudder post. The latter crack was exacerbated by metal wastage. Repair hull strength members to the satisfaction of the attending USCG Marine Inspector.

A vessel of 12 meters of more in length shall be provided a whistle. While making several blasts of whistle during a fire drill, breaker for ship's whistle tripped, but was able to be reset. Inspect whistle circuit to prevent failure of ship's whistle.

Each life jacket aboard vessel must be approved under approval series 160.155, 160.176, or 160.177. Additionally, each life jacket container must be marked with the proper quantity of life jackets within. 1 adult size life jacket were found unserviceable. Unserviceable life jackets were in excess of required carriage amount. Replace unserviceable life jackets or change label on container to match actual number within (if unserviceable life jackets will not be replaced).

At least once every twelve months, all hand portable fire extinguishers must be inspected. The vessel's firefighting equipment shall be ready for use at all times. Portable fire extinguishers were past due inspection and extinguisher #1 in the engine room needed to be recharged. Inspect extinguishers in accordance with NFPA standards and repair undercharged extinguisher.
