During todays In Service Inspection, the engineering logs were examined and found to be deficient, there is a problem with Battery weekly checks not being completed which lead to the EDG failure on 23Jun2020. These weekly checks that were last done on 13Jun2020 should have been done again on 20Jun2020 and were not completed until the day after the EDG failure. The EDG failure could have been prevented had the weekly battery checks been completed when required by your logs.
This problem must be investigated by your staff to determine the root cause for this failure in the PMS schedule and the lack of attention by the engineers involved. A written policy that corrects this issue which must include detailed training for the engineers on proper watch standing, log entries and PMS completion. This all must be completed within 14 days and prior to getting the vessel underway and submitted to USCG SECTOR New Orleans.
