Whenever damage or deterioration to hull plating or structural members that may affect the seaworthiness of a vessel is discovered or suspected, the cognizant OCMI may conduct an internal structural examination in any affected space, and may require the vessel to be dry-docked to effect permanent repairs. Inspection of steering/fuel tank space revealed several transverse deck structural members on the port side are beginning to split, are rotted and weakened. Observed sagging in the deck when other attending Marine Inspector stood and walked on the deck directly topside of the area of concern. Submit repair proposal.
