A submersible electric bilge pump may be used as a power bilge pump required by Table 182.520(a) provided that: The pump is permanently mounted and the pump is equipped with a strainer that can be readily inspected and cleaned without removal. MI observed forward machinery space submersible bilge pump float switch and pump not permanently mounted. Aft machinery space submersible pump was heavily covered and submerged in oil and grease. Properly mount and clean submersible pumps to satisfaction of MI.

Placards containing instructions for the donning and use of the life jackets aboard the vessel must be posted in conspicuous places that are regularly accessible and visible to the crew and passengers. Vessel did not have donning instructions for Type 1 PFD life jackets ( USCG Approval 160.055/153/0 style 198). Replace life jackets or provide donning instructions of this type to satisfaction of MI.

At each initial and subsequent inspections for certification, the marine inspector shall examine and test the following to determine thy are in proper operating condition, safe electrical condition, and fit for service for which they are intended: All generators, motors, lighting fixtures and circuit interrupting devices located in spaces or areas in which may contain flammable vapors shall be checked.
MI observed the generator with the following conditions: heavy oil accumulations across surface/wiring, loose bolt on generator mount, and heavily clogged air intake. Remove generator hazards listed to satisfaction of MI.
