A vessel must carry one floating waterlight, unless it is limited to daytime operation...Each ring life buoy with a floating waterlight must have a lanyard of at least 910 millimeters (3 feet) in length, but not more than 1,830 millimeters (6 feet), securing the waterlight around the body of the ring life buoy. MI observed that lanyard securing waterlight to ring buoy ring had significant deterioriation and was close to splitting. Operator replaced and installed the lanyard in the presence of the MI.

For equivalent kits, the contents must be stowed in a suitable, watertight container that is marked “First-Aid Kit.” A first-aid kit must be easily visible and readily available to the crew. First-aid kit was found having expired aspirin. Replace with new.

Install decorative lights to the satisfaction of the attending marine inspector.
