During the five year required crane recertification inspection on the port and stbd forward cranes severe wasteage beyond the allowable acceptable limits was identified on multiple areas of both crane booms. The five year recertification testing was not able to be completed due to safety concerns. Port and stbd cranes shall receive a satisfactory five year recertification (Load Test) in the presence of an attending marine inspector, ICGB or an authorized classification society prior to use. OCMI will accept mitigation proposals with documentation to operate beyond the five year recertification (Load Test) with a satisfactory analysis reviewed and approved by a Professional Engineer for use until approved repairs are completed.

During the five year testing on port fwd and stbd fwd cranes, significant corrosion was discovered along both booms. The depth, area, and location were documented and given to engineering for evaluation. The five year certification could not be completed due to safety concerns. The port fwd crane shall remain out of service until repairs are made and 5 year certification can be completed. Stbd fwd crane can only be used in emergencies when neither aft crane can reach, or for repair work on the fwd port crane. Upon completion and testing of port fwd crane, stbd fwd crane shall be tagged out until repairs are completed in accordance w/SEATRAX 5 year inspection.
