Before the ship leaves port and at all times during the voyage, all life-saving appliances shall be in working order and ready for immediate use. The free fall lifeboat steering was found inoperable, not properly turning in either direction. Also, upon using the emergency tiller, the steering was sluggish. Maintenance and tests were conducted on 07JUN18.

Resolution: The engineers worked on the free fall life boat, while inspection team was on board. Rectified the low oil and proved proper operation of steering before inspection team left.
