Issued 17 August 2023
Resolved
A propulsion engine control system, including pilot house control, must be designed so that a loss of power to the control system does not result in an increase in shaft speed or propeller pitch. Vessels new engine, YANMAR ENG No: E59183 is fitted with an electric throttle position sensor (propulsion control system) in lieu of mechanical. Submit a limited qualitative failure analysis (QFA) addressing power loss to the throttle position sensor to the Marine Safety Center. Test to the satisfaction of the attending Marine Inspector.
