A vessel on which a pre-engineered fixed gas fire extinguishing system is installed must have the following equipment at the operating station: A light to indicate discharge; An audible alarm that sounds upon discharge; and A means to reset devices used to automatically shut down ventilation systems and engines as required by paragraph (a)(3) of this section. The vessel's installed Xintex-Fireboy, did not have the required equipment at the operating station, and had no way to test the functionality of the pre-engineered fire system. Operator is to install required equpment and provide proof of functionality to marine inspector.

A flammable vapor detection system must provide a visual and audible alarm at the operating station. Flammable vapor sensor failed to function properly and sound or display alarm at the operating station during marine inspector testing. Operator is to repair or replace flammable vapor detection system so that it alarms properly.

At each initial and subsequent inspection for certification of a vessel, the owner or managing operator shall be prepared to conduct tests and have the vessel ready for inspections of machinery, fuel, and piping systems, including Operational test of the means provided for pumping bilges; and Test of machinery alarms including bilge high level alarms. During inspection, bilge pump failed to function in automatic mode from the float switch. Operator is to repair or replace so that bilge pump operates in auto mode.

Place into service one (01) 2-A portable fire extinguisher.

Place into service a ring buoy light, lanyard and detachable clip in accordance with 46CFR180.70, prior to operating at night.

Repair and/or replace fuel oil emergency cut-off valves so that they will fully close via the remote operating t-handle/pull cable.

Repair or replace inoperable float switch/alarm in the bilge area forward of the machinery space.

Repair or replace inoperable running light (starboard).

Replace damaged life-ring buoy.
