The Officer in charge of marine inspection may require a vessel to be dry docked or taken out of service to further asses the extend of damage to the hull. 7 feet of water ingress discovered in #2 void, vessel requires dry dock at Berry Bros in Morgan City, LA to determine cause of flooding. VSL to transit to Bourg facility to offload cargo, then proceed to Morgan City for reapairs upon first availability.

The hull and deck houses shall be of steel or iron construction except that the pilothouse and decks over quarters may be constructed of wood. Scantlings, material, and workmanship, subdivision of cargo spaces, fitting of cofferdams, and testing of tanks shall be at least equivalent to the requirements of the American bureau of Shipping or other recognized classification society. Vessel has significant wastage of the original scantling.

Resolution: Vessel conducted pad welding and built up the affect wassted areas on the deck. The deck was then coated with the protectant paint and a special note was added for future inspectors to pay attention to.

OCMI may require vessel to dry dock to further assess the extent of the damage and to effect permanent repairs. Examination of Port and Starboard #2 and #3 void tanks revealed 5 feet of standing water from an unknown breach in the vessel's watertight envelope. Vessel must remain at dock until the source of water ingress is identified, the extent of damage is assessed, a voyage plan is developed, and documentation is submitted to the Coast Guard. Upon submission the Coast Guard will provide authorization to transit to dry dock to effect repairs. 46 CFR 31.10-2(c)

Resolution: Cut outs and repairs were effected to the hull and watertight bulkhead separating # 2 & 3 interbottoms. Successful air test was witnessed, no leaks identified.
