To stop the flow of fuel in the event of a fire or break in the fuel line, a remote fuel shutoff valve must be fitted on any fuel line that supplies fuel directly to a propulsion engine or generator prime mover. Vessel crew was unable to remotely secure fuel valves with installed reach rod. Properly demonstrate securing all remote fuel valves to the satisfaction of the attending marine inspector. Prior to commercial operations.

Each towing vessel must have a fire detection system installed to detect engine room fires. While testing heat detectors in engine room, inspector noticed the audible and visual alarms in the engine room space was not functioning as designed. Make repairs to the fire detection system in accordance with manufacture instructions, prior to commercial operations.
