Rations shall be kept in airtight packaging and be stowed in a watertight container. The purpose of this regulation is to maintain and monitor the effectiveness of the fire safety measures the ship is provided with. For this purpose, the following functional requirements shall be met: fire protection systems and fire-fighting systems and appliances shall be maintained ready for use.
The Annex I sample locker (lockers I and II) have a water spray fire protection system. The nozzles of the spray rail were occluded or blocked by rust and debris in at least 6 of the 8 visible nozzles. The blockages would severly degrade the effectiveness of the system.

The condition of the ship and its equipment shall be maintained to conform with the provisions of current regulations to ensure the ship will remain fit to proceed to sea without danger to the ship. PSCO observed a pin-hole saltwater leak in the inlet side of saltwater piping for the lube oil cooler. Temporary repairs shall be completed prior to departure to the satisfaction of the RO. Permanent repair shall be completed within 30 days to the satisfaction of the RO.
